The rifle has been prepared by sanding smooth and coated with 3 layers of epoxy white auto
paint. Epoxy is very durable due to it's 2 part mixed in hardener,
Laying out your design is important. Size, shape, and flow of your artwork are best done in the
early stages. Here i get my shape by simply drawing it on plain white paper.
After my drawing in cut out i now can sketch out a few designs and they will fit, because i have
the exact shape to work with. Note might wanna make a drawing and copy it a few times. Just in
case.
figure 4  My eagle drawing in laid into place to make sure i like the basic design

figure 5  I used my airbrush to color the edges black so that it will scan into my computer. You can
freehand cut the design you make if you don't have a computer plotter to cut out your design on.

figure 6 My eagle gets scanned into my sign program and vectorized.
figure 7 After scanning in the image you can resize your design if needed, making this a great tool to
have around your shop. I made a mirror image to place on the other side of the stock. You will need a
paint mask material to cut out your design on. Some people use auto mask, I use sign transfer tape.

figure 8 Cut to shape and size that i need i apply the mask to the rifle stock and smooth it out. Careful
not to allow wrinkles to form in it, or paint might spray under the mask and give an unwanted paint mark.

figure 9 The taping will now begin. Personal note i hate taping. Using a 1/8th inch fine line tape I begin
laying out the stripes for the flag. I want the flag to look like it wraps around the gun into folds. Make sure
the folds will line up where you want them to fall or you may have to get creative with your airbrush to
make them come together.
figure 10 Still lining up the stripes for back taping.

figure 11 Finally finished all the covering. Double check for gaps and creases in the tape, so that the
paint won't leak under.

figure 12 Hey look some paint! Using HoK blue  shrimin base i filled in the blue stripes of the flag. I like
to make light and dark areas of blue to make a ripple effect in the flag. Wanna add some depth to your
base, try putting some HoK violet candy in the base to deepin the blues
figure 13 The blue also gets a little black around the edge to give some shadow not to much though,
you don't want to kill your blue. Now tape over your blue after you remove all the back taping from the
stock.

figure 14 Using HoK red base, I spray the whole gun top to bottom. Add some violet candy to the mix to
make a nice burgandy red for ripple.

figure 15 Remove all the tape after it dries. Careful and slow, don't just rip it all off or you might pull the
paint at edges of the tape. LEAVE ON THE EAGLE  MASK!!!
figure 16. Now i spray a black outline around the eagle masking, then remove the beak area of the
mask.

figure 17. I love using kandies for the rest of this project. Spray Pagan gold kandy for the beak. Use
the pagan for the eye one you have it painted in also.

figure 18. Switch colors to a black base color and add 25% transparent base to give it a shadow grey
effect. Use reducer to thin more if to dark. TIP. Try and work both sides as you change colors, this will
save time mixing the colors twice. Remember time is money. Add your eye in using the grey also.
figure 19. A bit of oriental blue kandy finishes off the eagle's white feathers. Load up your airbrush with
some root beer kandy and fill in your darker feathers under the white. Reduce your root beer and
shadow the eye and the beak. Eagle is done. Hurray!!!

figure 20 & 21. Time to add creases to your flag. Mix up a small amount of oriental blue 50%,35%
violet kandy, 15% black. Use tape to make sharper lines in the folds where the stripes break. Us e the
rest too make ripples in the fabric around the gun don't go to crazy less is more.
figure 22. Well here you are at the end, and what makes it better than seeing it clear coated. This is
the most important part for shine and protection of the item. Good luck on your next unusual project.
Hope this lesson helps you in the future. E-mail me if you have questions hope i can help.
